Chinese police have begun investigating a family in central Hunan province after shocking images surfaced online showing the stick-thin, mummified body of a 90-year-old woman who had been locked up and left to starve by her own daughter for nearly a month.The images of the woman, identified as Shi Mei of the southern city of Yongzhou, were reportedly posted online by a good samaritan who discovered her plight and, going against the wishes of her stony-hearted family, attempted to secretly sneak in porridge for the emaciated elderly woman to eat.According to the unidentified good samaritan, Shi Mei’s family not only refused to feed her, but also rejected the idea of cleaning up after the nonagenarian, who, because of her frailty, was forced to use the very same bed she slept, in as a lavatory.Despite attempts on the part of the good samaritan to save her, Shi Mei reportedly passed away last Friday.The callous family’s behavior has been vehemently condemned online by Chinese netizens.
